Enhanced Small Device Interface (ESDI)

ENHANCED SMALL DEVICE INTERFACE (ESDI) describes an improved data transfer and command scheme over the MFM and RLL drive types which preceded it. The ESDI drive/controller combination provided more data storage than MFM and faster data transfer than RLL. ESDI was short lived and is now obsolete. ESDI components are not compatible with other drive type components.
